Hampden Park were hosts to the annual George Leslie Employee Day last Friday. Almost 400 of our people attended the event this year, which did not disappoint.

The day started with breakfast rolls, quickly followed by opening presentations from our Directors – David Ross, Tony Fry and Mike Gault; who also announced three new Directors would be joining our Board, all promoted from within the company, as we future proof the business for years to come. Andy Newlands, Framework Director; Graeme Cowan, Finance Director and Simon Butler, Pre-Construction Director will take up their appointments in July. Congratulations to them all!

Mark McEwen, General Manager of the DV2 Framework at Scottish Water, shared his reflections on the successes and challenges that we face in delivering a large portfolio of work for Scottish Water and their customers. He was followed by Mark Fleming, Director of Positive Mental Health Scotland who discussed his experience promoting excellent mental health in the workplace, explaining how we can effect change within ourselves by eating healthily, exercising, sleeping well and making time for laughter with loved ones and colleagues.

After a delicious lunch, it was back to the conference room to hear from some of our Senior Managers about preconstruction, finance, quality management, and sustainability to name a few areas and how our increased use of digital tools is supporting that transformational journey; we also heard about past, present and future George Leslie projects ranging from Marine and Water to Renewables and Power.

A very exciting guest speaker joined us in the afternoon……. two-time Ballon d’Or winner Kevin Keegan made an appearance and gave his experience and story of a life of major transformative change. He referenced his time at Liverpool, Hamburg, Newcastle, and his short stint as England manager.

This fun fact was taken in good spirits in a predominantly Scottish crowd who have been busy in the past months making travelling arrangements to Germany for the Euros! 😉

With plenty of feedback reflecting a successful day, we are certain things can only get better as the business grows and our people grow with it.

See you next time at the George Leslie Employee Day 2025!
