George Leslie are currently undertaking works at Colonsay Harbour as part of CMAL’s Islay Upgrades Programme. and have generously donated £2,000 to the local charity Autism on the Water (AOTW).

Since our arrival in Colonsay last year, the team have developed a strong relationship with local resident Douglas Reid, a dedicated volunteer for AOTW.

Paul Gallagher, Foreman at George Leslie, met with Douglas Reid this month to formally present the cheque to Autism on the Water.

Douglas expressed his gratitude, stating, “On behalf of Autism on the Water, we are truly grateful for the generous sponsorship from George Leslie. These funds will be instrumental in further enhancing our community sails, which are really gaining momentum, and will enable us to provide more free-of-charge sailing experiences to people with autism.”

He added, “Sponsorship and donations are vital to keep AOTW going and to continue providing our services, especially during these challenging financial times. George Leslie has significantly eased that burden, and we cannot thank them enough.”

Paul Gallagher commented, “After getting to know Douglas through the relationship we built, I learned that some of his own family live with autism and through AOTW, they have developed a love for sailing, which is a passion shared throughout Colonsay.”

Gallagher continued, “While we have previously supported other local organisations such as the Golf Open and Music Festival, it was particularly inspiring to hear that AOTW provides free boarding to people with autism and their families, not only from Helensburgh but also by reaching out to those who cannot travel to them. At George Leslie, one of our core company values is Togetherness, and we are more than delighted to work with AOTW.”

Autism on the Water will be holding their annual Regatta on Saturday, July 12, at Crinan, Lochgilphead. This donation will significantly contribute towards the costs of this important event.
