Wemyss Bay Ferry Terminal – Refurbishment

The project involved the major refurbishment and reconstruction of the ferry berthing facilities at Wemyss Bay Ferry Terminal which is the mainland port for the lifeline ferry service to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute in the Firth of Clyde.

The port was closed for the duration of the work and ferry services were diverted to Gourock, with a critical completion date to enable re-opening prior to the busy Easter weekend period.

Main elements of the work:

  • Removing the existing greenheart timber grillage, piled fender system
  • Installing 10pairs of parallel-motion, pivot fenders supported on 762mm diam. tubular piles
  • Demolition and reconstruction of the reinforced concrete pier roundhead
  • Removing, refurbishing and the subsequent reinstallation of the 100t link-span structure
  • Cathodic protection to the structure
  • 500cum of dredging
