Reservoir Working

Earlsburn Reservoir Repairs

Earlsburn Reservoirs are situated in the hills above Stirling, accessed by a 3km long, single-track, hard-core road. The work at the upper reservoir comprised reducing the level of the spillway weir (and hence the impounded volume of water) which required reconstruction of the concrete overflow weir to a reduced O.D level. Works at the Lower Reservoir consisted of lowering the embankment at one end by 0.5m to create a secondary spill area, with a reinforcing geotextile incorporated within the reconstructed embankment. At the same time, the spillway channel and valve tower access bridges were replaced with new GRP structures.

Delivery and installation of the bridges utilised helicopter access but the remote location still presented challenging access conditions, particularly during the worst of the winter weather.
