Dura Den Flooding Remedials

In 2012, debris blocking the Ceres Burn resulted in catastrophic downstream flooding along the C45, at Dura Den, Fife which washed away sections of the road and the supporting embankment and caused extensive structural damage to adjacent low-lying properties. The road had remained closed for a prolonged period with severely restricted access to the remaining properties

This project was to restore and reconstruct the road, its associated embankments and retaining wall structures. The works involved:-

  • 5m high masonry retaining wall
  • 100.m of 11m long contiguous bored piled walls
  • Reinforced concrete parapet formed monolithically with the pile cap
  • Soil nailing embedded into bedrock to support embankment.
  • Stone-clad reinforced concrete parapets over the 170m masonry wall
  • Reinforced concrete cantilever retaining wall – clad in ashlar stone – to reinstate collapsed driveway
