The Plant Hire Controller plays a vital role in supporting George Leslie’s operational delivery by efficiently coordinating all plant, equipment, and vehicle hire requirements across projects. This role ensures that the right resources are sourced, delivered, maintained, and returned in line with cost, safety, and operational performance targets. The Plant Hire Controller works closely with site teams, suppliers, and the Plant & Yard Operations Manager to maintain high standards of service, compliance, and asset utilisation.

Key Responsibilities:

Plant Hire Coordination

  • Manage all internal and external plant and equipment hire requests across sites and projects.
  • Source suitable plant from approved suppliers, ensuring competitive rates and availability.
  • Schedule deliveries, collections, and transfers to optimise resource use and minimise downtime.
  • Monitor on-hire/off-hire dates to ensure accurate and timely off‑hires, avoiding unnecessary costs.

Supplier & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with suppliers to confirm hire rates, delivery times and replacement equipment.
  • Build strong working relationships with foremen, site agents, project managers and yard teams.
  • Compliance & Documentation.
  • Maintain accurate digital and paper records, including hire agreements, inspections and service documentation.
  • Support internal audits and contribute to continuous improvement of plant hire processes.

Operational Support

  • Coordinate with the yard team to manage internal plant availability, maintenance schedules and logistics.
  • Assist in managing small tools, consumables, and specialist equipment allocation.
  • Support the implementation of digital plant management systems and contribute to process improvements.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Experience in plant hire, construction logistics, or equipment coordination.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple requests simultaneously.
  • Good communication and negotiation skills when liaising with suppliers and internal teams.
  • Knowledge of construction plant, equipment and certification requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and plant management software systems.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a proactive and problem solving approach.
