Temple Bridge Reconstruction

Temple Bridge carries the C50 Temple Road over the River South Esk which is off the B6372 road, 4km south west of Gorebridge in Midlothian

The project involved the demolition and replacement of the existing deck superstructure which comprised of a reinforced concrete deck sitting on 6 encased steel beams, supported on mass concrete abutments.

The new deck construction consisted of precast, pre-stressed concrete bridge beams and parapet upstands, with an in-situ concrete deck infill. The new deck is supported on in-situ reinforced concrete bearing shelves, cast on the existing concrete abutments.

The overall length of the deck is some 9.5m, with a clear span of 7.6m and overall width of 5.85m.

In addition the work also involves waterproofing, steel parapets, surfacing, kerbing, drainage and localised concrete repairs to the abutments and wing walls upstands, with an in-situ concrete deck infill.
