Wemyss Bay Pier has won the Infrastructure Award at the UK-wide RICS Grand Final Awards Dinner. The project entry was described as:
“……a comprehensive upgrade and refurbishment of the existing Grade A Listed timber walkway which dates back to 1903 and an extensive refurbishment of the vehicle link-span, partial demolition and reconstruction of the existing 1970s load-restricted pier and renewal of pier fendering.”
In their citation, the RICS judges said:
“…. the 1903 walkway has been beautifully restored to its former glory whilst modern… techniques were successfully deployed to ensure future longevity of the pier, and improve the vessel fendering system”
The overall project involves the off-site fabrication and installation of a new linkspan structure at Oban Ferry Terminal for client Caledonian Maritime Assets Ltd (CMal).

GL making a return visit to the Sound of Kerrera off Oban, to undertake substantial repairs to the breakwater which suffered collision damage following an altercation with a workboat earlier this year.
