Case Studies
Collier Street Flood Prevention Scheme

The works were designed to mitigate flooding to the residential area at Collier Street and the factory units at Rankine Street adjacent to the Black Cart River in Johnstone.

Drainage outfalls were picked up by gravity sewers and conveyed to pumping stations built behind new protective bunds and walls.

During storm conditions excessive flows will be held in storage tanks before being pumped into the river.

The main elements of the contract were as follows:

  • Realignment and widening of existing river course over 300 metres.
  • Excavation of 14,000m3 material
  • 8000 m3 of new bund.
  • Installation of 2 “package type” pumping stations and associated pipework.
  • Construction of 1200 m3 bastion and gabion walling.
