Ceres Wastewater Treatment Works Upgrading
Ceres Wastewater Treatment Works in Fife was subject to a comprehensive upgrading during 2005 by Purac Leslie Consortium. Access was via an existing box culvert bridge over the Ceres burn, adjacent to local housing and recreational parklands and site servicing had to be planned for reduced size of vehicle and at specific times. Construction works consisted of:
- A new 12.7m x 1.2m inlet flow measurement structure 2m deep constructed over the existing live inlet sewer.
- 3 DWF overflow weir modifications.
- Motorisation of existing trickling filter distribution arms.
- Removal of existing tertiary filters and modification to new outlet flow measurement flume and circulation water sump, whilst maintaining process flows.
- New access steelwork and valve slab for re-circulation and sampling requirements.
- Construction of 2 new 6.5m diam x 5.5m deep humus tanks, constructed within a 15m x 7m cofferdam adjacent to the existing trickling filter and sludge holding structures.
A new 2.8m deep splitter chamber, MCC support slab and final landscaping completed the works
