Case Studies
River Kelvin Footbridge

The Works were situation within the Botanic Gardens in the west end of Glasgow.

Glasgow City Council required a new bridge to replace the old iron bridge washed away in the flooding of 1994.

The contract awarded to George Leslie Ltd included the construction of new abutments, footpaths, fencing, natural stone walling, gabions and the installation of the new timber bridge.

Careful planning enabled much of the abutment construction to be undertaken outwith the riverbed, thus minimising the risk of pollution.  Restricted access prevented complete offsite prefabrication and much of the bridge deck assembly was carried out in situ.

This new Eki timber bridge now forms part of the new cycle route through Glasgow.
