Case Studies
Access Junction at David Lloyd Leisure Garthdee Road, Aberdeen

Located on Garthdee Road, one of the busiest approaches to Aberdeen city centre, this project was to provide the permanent access from the main road for the new David Lloyd leisure facility.

The main elements of work comprised:

  • Widening of the existing road with associated drainage and kerbing
  • New footpath construction
  • Rebuilding random-rubble walling
  • Diversion of existing services
  • Installation of new services to the leisure complex
  • Road markings & surface finishes

The works were sequenced to minimise the potential for disruption to existing traffic on this busy commuter route, with elements requiring lane closures undertaken outwith peak traffic times, with resources redeployed to off-road works during these periods.

Close liaison with Aberdeen City Council and coordination with the Utility Companies, was critical to the success of the project.

An early substantial completion of the works permitted the main development to commence earlier than planned.
