This work was undertaken with Grantrail Ltd for First Scotrail, to provide temporary overnight ‘stabling’ for train units during the major refurbishment works being undertaken at Waverley Station, Edinburgh.
The first part of the work called for site clearance across the 20,000sqm site, the demolition and disposal of the existing concrete platforms and the installation of a 650m perimeter security fence.
Thereafter, 700m of new pre-cast concrete platforms were constructed to provide both driver and servicing access for the trains.
The construction of concrete access stairways, complete with handrailing, a 500m services trough, the provision of safe walking routes and 2000sqm of designated service areas and 500m of delineation fencing completed the main construction work.
Also included as part of the contract, was the construction of modular staff accommodation units, including foundations, services installation & associated compound.
