The works comprised the fabrication and installation of a new passenger safety screen along the edge of the island platform to protect passengers from the risk of falling onto a live rail. Access was restricted to night shift possessions, with the station platform returned to full operational use each morning.
The existing platform structure was strengthened to resist the overturning and shear forces from the cantilever balustrade, with strengthening anchors drilled and fixed through the existing platform tiles.
The tiles were then removed and reinstated using rapid set screen mortar for public use during the day. Stainless steel balustrade posts were fixed to the precast units which form part of the edge of the platform. The balustrade posts and base plate covers were electrically earthed as the work progressed.
The 2m high screen was erected over the full 40m length of the platform, and provides an aesthetically pleasing contribution to passenger safety.
