This contract formed part of a series of station refurbishments carried out with Bovis Construction under the Extended Arm method of procurement that Railtrack favoured in the late 90's.
Typically the works involved the refurbishment and upgrading of the existing station building and footbridge as well as the installation of a new platform drainage system.
Much of the work had to be carried out during weekend/nightshift possession. This was obviously the case when regauging the platforms which involved the removal of the existing platform edging and replacement with new precast oversail units to suit current track alignment.
Careful planning ensured that the work was carried out on programme and with minimal inconvenience to passengers and no disruption to rail traffic.
