This project involved the construction of two roll-on/roll-off berths and berthing faces, and upgraded terminal facilities at Hunter’s Quay and McInroy’s Point for Western Ferries’ Gourock-Dunoon ferry service.
The construction works included large 900mm diameter tubular steel piles, socketed 4m into rock on the Hunters Quay side, UC bearing piles, sheet piles, 100t rock anchors together with supporting steelwork, much of which was installed with barge-mounted craneage.
The enlarged terminal facilities were constructed on 10,000cum of infill, with the new facilities protected with some 10,000t of heavy rock armour. 5000cum of dredging was also required to enable safe ferry access Structural concrete included the bank seats, yoke dolphins and retaining walls.
Access ladders, walkways, handrailing, 2,000sqm of roads carparks & pavements, linkspan services installation, street lighting and safety fencing, completed the works.
