Case Studies
Stranraer Harbour, Removal of Seacat Berth

The Works comprised the dismantling and removal of the disused Seacat berthing facility on Stranraer waterfront, in advance of the planned leisure, housing and retail development, following the relocation of Stena’s ferry operations to Cairnryan.

Initially, the existing concrete decking was dismantled by a combination of coring and saw-cutting for removal in manageable lengths. Thereafter, the work involved the breaking out, withdrawal and off-site disposal of:

  • concrete-encased tubular piles
  • mooring dolphins
  • timber fendering, and
  • ancillary pile furniture

Most of the work was undertaken by barge-mounted, heavy breaking and lifting equipment.
