Case Studies
BBC Headquarters, Pacific Quay, Glasgow

Pacific Quay, on the south bank of the River Clyde opposite the Armadillo, is the prominent location for the new BBC Scotland Headquarters building, adjacent to The Glasgow Science Centre and Bells Bridge.

The initial works package was to undertake the enabling works associated with the construction of the main six storey building.  The extent of the work comprised two main elements - earthworks and drainage.

The Earthworks involved re-processing, placing, and compacting excavated material as suitable infill for the main piling platform. The site was originally a part of the extensive docklands which were infilled with masonry, concrete and demolition rubble, and also included in the workscope was the removal of piling obstructions from the largely ‘made-up’ ground. The formation was then capped with a layer of imported suitable material to support the heavy piling rigs.

The drainage work comprised the installation of both new foul and surface Water sewers and the diversion of existing sewers.
