The Craigbog Burn CSO project, in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, was part of Scottish Water’s programme to resolve 277 wastewater Unsatisfactory Intermittent Discharges (UIDs) of combined storm overflows, to be delivered over a 4 year period across Scotland.
The works at Craigbog Burn consisted of the construction of 80m of box culverts across playing fields between CSO chambers, with inter-connecting pipework tie-ins installed to the existing system. During the course of the works, one of the connecting sewers was found to be in poor condition and following a survey undertaken by GL’s in-house CCTV survey unit, the full replacement of this sewer was undertaken to ensure full functionality of the newly installed culvert. Despite a delayed start on site and this significant element of additional work, delivery of the new functional asset was achieved on programme and within the output delivery period.
The work location was a residential area with deep excavations adjacent to a children’s play area with GL managing the stakeholder liaison to ensure minimum disruption to local residents.
