The Design and Build Contract was awarded in September 1998 by West of Scotland Water to Civil Engineering Contractors, George Leslie Ltd. The conditions of contract are the I Chem E (Red Book).
The works consist of a series of gravity interceptor/collector sewers, satellite pumping stations, rising mains, stormwater overflows and outfalls to connect the catchment to the north of Kinloch Park from Low Askomill Walk at Campbeltown Shipyard to a new pumping station and screenhouse at Kinloch Park. A similar system of gravity interceptor/collector sewers, satellite pumping station and rising mains connect the catchment to the south of Kinloch Park from Kilkerran to the new Kinloch Park Pumping Station. A new main pumping station at Kinloch Park transfers flows from the interceptor sewers via a new pumping main to the location of a proposed new wastewater treatment works. Also included in the contract was a 1200mm dia storm outfall from the main pumping station together with small diameter emergency sea outfalls from the satellite pumping stations. All outfalls were fitted with screens.
In order to keep traffic disruption to a minimum, some 700 metres of sewer was constructed in tunnel. This section is 1500mm diameter in order to provide the storage capacity required to attenuate storm flows.
