The Princess Royal presided over the formal re-opening of Largs Pier, following the major reconstruction work. The contract saw the pier virtually rebuilt from scratch, giving an enlarged harbour area, providing shelter for the town's slipway and overnight berthing for the Cumbrae ferries, as well as upgraded facilities for fishermen and other pier users.
