Alan Kirkwood, GL’s Quality, Safety & Environmental manager is a busy man these days, combining his ‘day job’ with the chairmanship of the West of Scotland Branch of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). With over 35,000 members, IOSH is the world’s biggest professional health and safety organization, setting standards, and offering support & development through resources, guidance, events and training. It acts as the voice of the profession, campaigning on issues that affect millions of working people.
So far during his year in office, Alan has chaired the regular monthly meetings, initiated closer links with colleges and universities, and co-organised the ground-breaking Behavioural Safety event involving AKT Theatrical Productions. Alan also recently addressed this year’s National IOSH Conference in Leicester and will be heavily involved as local chairman, when the conference comes to Glasgow for the first time, in March 2010.
